InnovITech Ltd. and UD-GenoMed Medical Genomic Technologies Ltd. (a spin-off of the University of Debrecen’s Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) have jointly announced the launch of Microbiolance, a microbiome analysis service. The platform marks a significant development in the domestic health innovation market, combining shotgun metagenomic sequencing technology with artificial intelligence to deliver comprehensive, species-level taxonomic and functional analysis of the gut microbiome.
The gut microbiome: health’s hidden key
Research over the past decade has revealed in increasing detail how the microorganisms living in our gut — collectively known as the gut microbiome — are connected to human physiology in numerous ways.
The microbiome plays a role in the metabolism of certain vitamins and bioactive compounds, interacts with the immune system, and is linked to the nervous system via the gut-brain axis. Variations in microbiome composition and function have been studied in connection with numerous health conditions, although the precise mechanisms and clinical significance of these links remain, in many cases, the subject of active research.
The Microbiolance service
Microbiolance is a comprehensive, user-friendly microbiome analysis system offering the following features:
- Shotgun metagenomic sequencing: Detailed, species-level molecular analysis of microbial DNA isolated from a user-submitted stool sample.
- Automated bioinformatics processing: Processing of raw sequencing data and identification of microbial composition based on international databases.
- AI-powered analysis: Comparison of microbiome profiles against a healthy reference database, including enterotype determination and functional annotation.
- Personalized report: Detailed results on the microbiome’s taxonomic composition and diversity, functional gene set and predicted metabolic potential, along with interpretation of select results relative to reference populations and the scientific literature.
What does the analysis reveal?
- Which microorganisms can be identified in the sample, down to species level
- How diverse the microbiome composition is
- What functional gene set and metabolic potential characterize it
- How certain results compare to reference populations
- Which scientifically documented associations relate to the identified features
How does the service work?
Users receive a sample collection kit, allowing them to easily perform sample collection at home. The sample is then sent back to the laboratory in Debrecen, where UD-GenoMed specialists perform sequencing following quality control. The data is processed through InnovITech’s bioinformatics and AI platform, and results become available to users on the Microbiolance customer portal within 1–3 weeks.
Microbiolance can also be used for research purposes
For research institutions and pharmaceutical R&D teams, the service goes beyond the standard report: on request, raw sequencing data (FASTQ) along with taxonomic, gene-function, and metabolic outputs are also available.
This opens the door to cohort-based studies of microbiome–clinical correlations and the discovery of potential biomarkers.

Who is Microbiolance for?
- Individuals: Health-conscious individuals seeking a comprehensive picture of their gut flora, as well as individuals dealing with health issues who want to better understand the microbiome-related background of an existing condition.
- Healthcare providers and clinics: Detailed examination of microbiome composition for research and professional purposes, along with tracking of longitudinal changes.
- Research institutions and pharmaceutical companies: Analysis of correlations between cohort-based microbiome and clinical data profiles, and identification of new disease models and biomarkers — with raw data (FASTQ files, species lists, metabolite lists, gene lists) available on request.
Scientific background and future outlook
Microbiolance is more than just a microbiome analysis tool. The developers’ goal is for the platform to contribute, in the long term, to the identification of disease-specific biomarkers, support early diagnostics, and enable personalized therapeutic decision-making.
InnovITech is also currently working on an EU co-funded R&D project supported by the DIMOP Plusz program, which aims to integrate microbiome, metabolite, gene activity, and clinical data to support more accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment of male infertility.
The test does not constitute a medical diagnostic procedure — results are for informational purposes only and are based on currently available scientific knowledge.
