GIS-based monitoring of agricultural cultivation and tillage protocol research

The GRAPLER project aims to develop a prototype of a self-driving, vineyard-pruning robot capable of autonomously navigating vineyard rows and performing the complex task of grapevine pruning using machine learning and self-improving algorithms. The robot is designed to handle the intricacies of pruning by learning and adapting its methods over time, enhancing both efficiency and precision in vineyard management.

During the project, the configuration of vineyards—such as plot layouts and cultivation parameters—is supported by the Farmer module, which leverages GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology. This software enables users to:

  • Configure and manage the spatial and operational parameters of vineyard plots.

  • Set and monitor cultivation, growing, treatment, and plant protection protocols.

  • Track the progress and support the processes of vineyard management.

The Farmer module is a standalone, valuable agri-informatics solution, independent of the GRAPLER project, and can be utilized for broader agricultural research and management needs.

The system offers a comprehensive suite of features for agricultural research companies, including:

  • Geoinformatics and Plot Configuration: Spatial and other configuration options for parcels involved in agricultural research

  • Protocol Management: Specification and monitoring of planting, cultivation, growing, treatment, and plant protection protocols

  • Mobile Application for Field Surveys: Enables on-site inspection with mobile app features, including timestamped photo and text-based documentation for each plot

  • Monitoring Vineyard Status: Keeps track of the condition of vineyard plots and supports trend evaluation and protocol assessment over time

  • Evaluation of Vineyard Development Trends: Analyzes growth trends and evaluates the effectiveness of cultivation protocols

The GRAPLER system and its associated software solutions are intended for companies engaged in crop production research, providing them with advanced tools for managing and optimizing their field experiments and operational processes.
